It will soon be possible to park your bike more securely beyond Berlin's borders with ParkYourBike. An important milestone has now been reached with the ground-breaking ceremony for the first modular “RadPark” bicycle parking facility at Eichwalde station.

Brandenburg's State Secretary for Transport, Dr. Ina Bartmann, together with Iris Reimold, Head of the Road Transport Department at the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport, Martin Fuchs, Managing Director of the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB), Jörg Jenoch, Mayor of Eichwalde and Michael Fugel, Managing Director of infraVelo, broke ground for the bicycle parking facility at Eichwalde S-Bahn station. A total of 308 new parking spaces are planned here, 126 of which will be secured in the form of double-decker parking spaces distributed over 3 collective parking zones and six parking spaces for cargo bikes in a collective parking zone. A bicycle repair column and a bicycle network map are to be installed at a central location. This will make it even easier to transfer from bicycles to the S8 and S46 to Wildau, Königs Wusterhausen and Berlin. The facility is scheduled to open in July 2025.

More parking slots 2025

Progress is also being made in Berlin: in addition to the existing facilities at the Rathaus Schöneberg, Alt-Mariendorf and Wutzkyallee subway stations and the Friedrichsfelde Ost and Schöneweide S-Bahn stations with a total of 160 protected parking slots, protected collective parking facilities will be opened until the summer at the Adlershof, Her-msdorf and Schöneweide S-Bahn stations with a total of 144 protected parking slots.

“Modern bicycle parking facilities and ease of use are essential for the combined use of public transport and bike in Berlin and Brandenburg's municipalities. Our cross-state cooperation for access to secure bicycle parking will further strengthen everyday and tourist travel by bike and public transport and increase their share of the modal split. I am therefore delighted that ParkYourBike will not only be available in Berlin in future, but also in Eichwalde and at 13 other locations in Brandenburg with a total of over 1,000 secure parking spaces.” Michael Fugel, Managing Director of infraVelo

Pilot project “Modular bicycle parking”

As part of the “Modular Bicycle Parking” pilot project, which is supported by the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning, secure wooden bicycle parking facilities are being implemented at central public transport points. Funding is being provided from the public transport investment program of the state of Brandenburg and from the federal government's “”Sonderprogramm Stadt und Land“” (special urban and rural program), co-financed by state funds. The state of Berlin is also supporting the Pi-lot project. The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) and ParkYourBike have concluded a cooperation agreement.

RadPark + ParkYourBike = secure parking in Brandenburg

VBB's more than four million customers will soon be able to park their bikes protected and secured at various public transport stations in Brandenburg using the ParkYourBike app.  The planned parking spaces in Brandenburg will be visible under the new word/image brand “RadPark”. Cyclists who want to park at a RadPark station can register with ParkYourBike and then have the opportunity to use the service in both Brandenburg and Berlin.

In Brandenburg, a permanently assigned parking space is booked for a fixed period at the RadPark locations, while the parking spaces in Berlin are only available for parking processes of up to 21 calendar days and can be freely selected. The latter is intended to give as many users in Berlin as possible the opportunity to get a secure parking space. In Brandenburg, the tariffs for the parking spaces are set by the respective municipalities and can be accessed in the ParkYourBike app in the respective information on the facility.

All information on parking processes and costs can be displayed uniformly in the ParkYourBike app. This means that commuters from or to the surrounding area of Berlin can park easily and flexibly at any time.
