Today, a significant step for sustainable mobility in Brandenburg was celebrated at Eichwalde station: the opening of the modular VBB-RadPark facility marks the official launch of an innovative pilot project for safe and convenient bike parking with ParkYourBike. The facility is starting operations with an introductory phase during which 24-hour parking slot bookings are free of charge until November 30.
Representatives from politics and transport gathered for the opening: Brandenburg's State Secretary for Transport Dr. Ina Bartmann, Iris Reimold, Federal Ministry of Transport, infraVelo Managing Director Michael Fugel, and VBB Managing Director Christoph Heuing, together with the mayor of Eichwalde Jörg Jennoch, praised the importance of the project for the region and beyond.
Michael Fugel, Managing Director of infraVelo:
“Our self-developed ParkYourBike app is a truly innovative mobility service: it is the key to all public, secure bicycle parking facilities in Berlin and, increasingly, in Brandenburg. With Eichwalde, we have connected our second location in Brandenburg and are promoting cycling in our region with our digital infrastructure. Conversely, we will use the new modular design of the Eichwalde facility in Berlin Mahlsdorf.”
A showcase project for the whole of Brandenburg
The new RadPark facility at Eichwalde station is part of the “Modular Bike Parking” pilot project, which is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport with around €1.7 million as part of the “Stadt und Land” funding program. The aim is to quickly and cost-effectively implement modern bike parking facilities in modular wooden construction in Brandenburg’s municipalities.
The facility offers a total of 673 parking slots on both sides of the station, including:
- 126 secure parking slots in collective locking systems with double-deck parking racks and 6 secure parking slots for bicycles of special sizes on the east side
- 56 secure parking slots in collective locking systems with double-deck parking racks and 3 secure parking slots for bicycles of special sizes on the west side
Additional features such as a photovoltaic system on the green roof, video surveillance, a bicycle repair station, and a bicycle network map ensure comfort and safety. The design of the forecourt with seating and greenery has also been carefully considered – a real plus for the quality of stay and cityscape.
Free parking until November
Until November 30, 2025, anyone interested can use the new facility free of charge for 24-hour bookings and get to know it. After that, the regular tariffs will apply. Depending on the type of parking slot and the duration of the rental, slots for bicycles are available for bookings of less than 24 hours for €1.00, while cargo bikes cost €1.50. It is also possible to make weekly, monthly, half-yearly, and yearly bookings. Further information on the location and tariffs can be found at www.parkyourbike.net/brandenburg.
A strong signal for the mobility transition
With Eichwalde as the pilot municipality, implementation is now beginning in other cities and municipalities: by the end of 2026, a total of around 2,440 parking slots are to be created at 13 train stations in 12 municipalities under the “RadPark” label. Further VBB-RadPark facilities are expected to open in the fall.
